Whether it was old Bill Shakespeare or that even more talented writer, Dan Seals, describing scenarios in song, after week four the nation found out that several shiny objects in college football may glitter but are not gold. As the season moved into the 2nd Quarter of the year, both contenders and pretenders began to appear from the pack of teams looking to migrate closer to the College Football Playoff. Almost finished with September into Week 5, The College Football World focus rotates now to the abnormal number of undefeated and the few one loss teams left with a realistic chance of competing for championships in 2023. But before we take a step closer and eyeball those left standing, let’s quickly dissect the pyrite below and show the fool’s gold we all peddled so far this season.
Dan Seals - Everything that glitters is not gold
Colorado - “Do you believe now?” Head Coach Deion Sanders so famously chirped at his inaugural post-game conference after defeating TCU in week one. Bombastically throwing down his spear into the heart of the sports world, Sanders instantly became the face and fury of College Football in 2023. Three weeks later, after being completely exposed and humiliated by The Oregon Ducks 42-6, Sanders sheepishly chirped again “they just trying to beat me and not my team.” Inferring that things were now unnecessarily personal from other coaches towards his program, Sanders followed up personally with “you better get me while I am down.”
In a pregame motivation speech by Oregon Coach, Dan Lanning, the fury of the college football world was clearly seen.
The Cinderella story is OVER! 🗣️ - Dan Lanning's speech before Oregon vs. Colorado 👀
I know I would be ready to run through a wall for that coach after hearing that. Obviously not knowing the context whatsoever, Skip Bayless from Fox Sports went after Lanning for his little chat with his team before kick-off.
“I’ve tried to tell you guys for two weeks there is a deep-rooted, venomous vengeance that is starting to manifest itself against Deion among white coaches”
According to Bayless, motivating your players, many of whom are minorities, is not right, it is racism. What Bayless conveniently left out in his faulty analysis was what happened pregame in warm-ups before Dan Lanning’s famous fighting words occurred.
Please proceed to minute mark 1:22 of the video in the article and watch through 1:40 to see the extent of the disrespect by Colorado players in pregame towards Oregon. Shilo Sanders, Colorado DB and son of Deion Sanders, even barked on the field “I’ll beat the ---- out of any one of y’all and y’all coach. ... Why y’all so little? ... We fittin’ to run through y’all ass.” Again, it is racism when people want to cut the head off the Colorado snake and whip them 42-6. There are multiple other instances in that video that show a Colorado program that was nothing more than all talk, all bark, and no bite Saturday against a successful program in football. Shilo beat the blank out of Oregon so badly that after the game according to the article he was taken to the local hospital urinating blood.
Lane Kiffin – Speaking of a lot of bark little doggie, and no bite, is there anyone other than Deion Sanders in the national media who gets so much love until they fall flat on their face than Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin? Now starting at 0-5 historically against Nick Saban, no coach in football has delivered less results with more so-called reputation since whenever. Known as a “master troller” on Twitter/X, Kiffin continually wins the party of life, and continually loses any meaningful games for his program in Oxford. It was a “now or never” weekend in Tuscaloosa for both Bama and Ole Miss. Ole Miss with Kiffin was just not man enough once again to get over the hump and send a wounded Tide dynasty into disarray once and for all. Two men enter, one man leave? No, more like one man entered, and a spoiled child left empty handed. Don’t worry Rebel fans, you will get your chance all week again to watch Lane get cute on Twitter, then possibly abused by a real program again with LSU coming to town Saturday Night. Welcome to the bottom of The SEC with the rest of us and jump on in, the pool is nice and warm.
